PRESS RELEASE:
Rooms on View 2009 Postponed
Rooms on View, South Africa’s premier décor show, is to be postponed in 2009 and re-launched in 2010. This will also be the starting point of a new trend which will see Rooms on View becoming a Bi-Annual exhibition.
The global economic slowdown is currently affecting us all, it is clear that we are facing very economically aware times. In light of this, myself and our two major sponsors, Home Fabrics and Conde Nast House & Garden have spent hours deliberating how best to go about maintaining the standards of the exhibition. “None of us involved would be comfortable going ahead with Rooms on View in 2009 if it is not perfect, half measures are not an option” says Sumari Krige, Managing Director of Rooms on View.
As the most prestigious décor show in South Africa, Rooms on View has always strived to, not only maintain, but improve its inspired standards. Over the last eight years the show has grown in stature and quality, providing a valuable high-profile platform for you, as decorators and designers, to showcase your exceptional talents. The show in 2008 was the best to date and we feel it would be very disappointing for all involved to see the standards drop, even slightly. However, the current climate in the industry is that we are all concentrating on our core business, and participating in a promotional event such as Rooms on View is a luxury many of us are cautious to embrace at present.
“Rooms on View is synonymous with excellence and inspired decorating, but it was evident that the economic crisis would prevent us delivering a stellar show of the quality we, the exhibitors and the public expected. The industry will miss the event this year, but I anticipate Rooms on View 2010 to continue to be an influential and sophisticated showcase for décor style setters” adds Liz Morris, Editor, Conde Nast House & Garden
The team at Rooms on View are already securing exciting opportunities for the show in 2010, which will take place in our usual slot, being the last weekend of May. We will still maintain a strong brand awareness during 2009 with a series of workshops , various magazine articles and exciting features planned for 2010.
“Rooms on View is undoubtedly South Africa’s premier décor exhibition which over the years has given the industry the opportunity to showcase their product and talent. Due to the current economic decline that prevails, we support the decision to postpone Rooms on View 2009 and are committed as a sponsor for 2010” concludes Julian Gelb, CEO, Home Fabrics.
